Welcome

Nothing means more to deaf children than having a friend who can speak their own language.
Deaf children "talk" with their hands and "hear" with their eyes. Children love action and adventure and are fascinated with sign language and "secret communication."

Let's learn to sign. Here's the ASL alphabet and secret messages to decode.
Come on, you can do it!

Never Mind! is a story of courage written by Jessica Gill. Jessica is deaf and has a little sister who
is also deaf.
Are you involved in a project that takes courage? Here's a place to submit
your story.

Did you know?

Scientists in America have discovered a species of frog
which is deaf and uses 'sign language'. The frog is two inches long and has no ear drums. It lives in the forests in Costa Rica and Panama. The frogs rotate their front legs in a slow, circular motion to show anger and aggression. They use their left or right legs, depending on where the frog they are communicating to is sitting. Even though the frogs do not have ears, they do recognize sounds, because they have sensory cells inside them which vibrate.

Schools for the Deaf

Stories are the heart of every culture. They are the way Deaf people talk to each other about what they believe in and how they interpret the world around them.

Through language, folktales, jokes, and many cultural forms, the Deaf weave stories about who they are, where they come from, what they believe in, and how they plan their lives. This is the essence of what we call "Deaf Culture." more...
